Day of FIRSTS!!

Immediately after I posted the fun little poll asking whether or not we should cut Noah's hair something happened. His hair went crazy. Like CRAZY CRAZY! He grew wings. The bottom row of hair had a sudden growth spurt. It was insane. The mullet had to be stopped. So Matt and I made a deal. Matt put an offer on the table I couldn't refuse (wink wink)... Friday night I gave Noah his bath and lovingly washed his hair and his crazy curls for the last time.

I said my goodbyes.

I was totally okay with it.

Apparently so was he.

He didn't mind getting his hair cut at all.

(is it just me or does the lady cutting his hair totally need a trim herself?)

I think he likes it. He knows he is handsome.

And I actually think he looks just as babyish with

those chubber cheeks and all...

You won't believe it...

Oh. My. Goodness....

HE WALKED!!!

We are just a little bit excited over here at the krenz house!! He walked. He really walked!!

No matter how big he gets...

he will always be my little boy.

Last fall James was injured playing football (which was a horrible experience in itself). We found out pretty quickly that he had a torn MCL and PCL. After waiting for months (thank Tricare) surgery day finally came today.

We arrived at Walter Reed Army Hospital this morning at 5 am. Checked in. Got him all situated for his 6 hour surgery. What a long wait! It was really hard to just sit and wait. I didn't want to leave the waiting area in case they called. Overall the surgery went really well. They were able to repair both tendons. He has a few screws in his knee now holding it all together. Coming out of anesthesia was pretty rough. He spent 4 hours in PACU (instead of the planned 45 minutes). It was really hard to see him in so much pain. My heart just broke watching him suffer. By about 7 pm they had him stable enough to transfer him to the Pediatric floor. The nurses were a little surprised when they wheeled in this giant man child. It took six of them to transfer him to his bed. The main goal tonight and tomorrow is to get his pain controlled. He will probably have to stay a day or two. So tonight Matt is staying with him. Here's hoping for a smooth recovery. We love you James.

So even if he is 6'3'' and 220 pounds. He will always be my little boy.

He was about 100 more spots behind his ears, in his hair, on his back, in his diaper.

and no he was did not get the vaccine for it.

(for the record several of my siblings had these gorgeous locks too but once they got cut they never grew back)

I have seen variations of this around town (most of them were just plastic covers) and knew I could make a warmer one (to block out the bitter cold that we have right now). I made this one morning from some scraps in my craft closet. I LOVE how it turned out and it has been so nice to be able to keep the babe warm.

The Capitol Building

We really wanted to take my parents to see the Capitol Building. We had never been on the tour. We got our tickets online a month in advance and just waited for the big day. With traffic and an extra long Metro ride we were pretty late for our appointed time. Luckily we got to go in anyways... SO WORTH IT! It is a must see for anyone visiting the area. They take you on a guided tour (our tour guide Mike was a retired history teacher and was an awesome guide) There was so much history and beauty. It really is incredible...

Christmas continued...

Even though the weather was crappy we still wanted to show Laura around the big city. So Sunday morning we froze our arses off all in an effort to go to the top of the Washington Monument. I think it was worth it. I mean we survived :)

Christmas Morning

One of the biggest hits this year was one of Myles' gifts. Grandma and Grandpa gave him a wiggle car. Everyone enjoyed it, even the grown ups.

Funny thing though, it was Myles' present but the only picture I have of him using it is above where he is just loading up the dog to have a ride with Noah.

Tradition...

It's a tradition. Every year. For as long as I can remember.

I love it.
I am not sure they love it as much as me.

Visit with Santa

The yearly visit with the big guy. We have to have this experience right? Myles LOVED it. Noah was more than a little leery of Santa. Myles requested an Iron Man game, books and some new shoes and some books for his baby brother. Santa told him to remember to be good all year long.

Christmas Eve

On Christmas Eve we went to visit Mt. Vernon, home of the Washington's. This is one of my very favorite places to visit. I just love the history of it and I love seeing the home that they made. It is pretty incredible. I got an annual pass for Christmas (thanks again Susan and Dennis) and cannot wait to go back many times and see everything. It was super super cold that day but we managed to see some of the grounds and get the tour of the house.

The National Thanksgiving turkey Apple now lives at Mount Vernon. He was pardoned last month by President Obama and will live out his life on this farm.


For the record he wasn't really friendly.

It seems our founding father had a penchant for exotic animals, and in 1787 he paid 18 schillings to bring a camel at Christmastime to entertain his guests. This years camel is Aladdin. He didn't even move the whole time we were looking at him.
